Two modern art gems in Michigan: Zaha Hadid-designed Broad Art Museum in Lansing, and the Frederick Meijer Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.

Recent travels in the U.S. led to inspiring discoveries in modern art museums and collections in Michigan.  My textile designer and I jumped in the car for a day trip to Lansing, to visit the striking Broad Museum (cover photo).  Designed by Zaha Hadid, the museum opened in 2012,and is named after philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad (note to self: visit the Broad sometime in L.A., too, headquarters of their impressive post-war and contemporary art collection).

Bangladeshi artist Tayeba Begum Lipi's razor sharp art was featured during our visit, beautiful and intense all at once.  Her installations of objects important to her in everyday life are made from stainless steel blades.  The beautiful shine inspired me to work with beading and sequins in future collections.

Next stop in Michigan:  The Frederick Meijer Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.  This giant metal sculpture by Bernar Venet makes me think of ribbons...

Alexander Liberman's dancing red sculpture is inspiration for ruffles on dresses.

Finally, Keith Haring's sculpture just happens to be in my obsession color, "egg-yolk yellow"... all colors and elements in upcoming NVD collections.
